Indoor Gardening – Empowering Veggie Growers

Remember those days when Indoor Gardening was not even in existence and people used to free their outdoor space to plant fruits and vegetables of their choice? In the traditional form of gardening, having ample space was the biggest prerequisite. Moreover, the seasonal plantation was the only option as people had to grow the greens as per the weather outside.

Thank goodness we have Indoor Gardening to save us all that hassle now. Hydroponic, Aeroponic, and Aquaponic are the three forms of indoor gardening available. Out of these, hydroponics is the form of gardening in which water is used as the main medium to grow plants. There is no usage of soil at all. However, in the case of Aeroponic gardening, no growing medium is used to grow the plants. Instead, the roots of the grown plants stay hung in the darkroom and over the time, they are sprayed with a nutrition-rich solution. In the case of Aquaponic gardening, fish and plants are grown within the same water medium. The organic waste of fish provides nutrients to the plants and the oxygen filtered by plants is helpful for the fish.

No matter what form of Indoor Gardening you choose, there are some things that you will have to consider while setting up your own indoor garden. These factors are as mentioned below:

  1. Space – Setup the indoor garden as per the space available. Measure the free space that you have in your house and purchase the equipment and plants accordingly. Otherwise, if you go overboard and purchase apparatus without measuring the free space, you will end up buying too much stuff. Trust me; there are lots of indoor gardening products available in the market!
  2. Reflecting Light – Indoor gardening yields more because the light is supplied to it 24x7, which is not possible in case of outdoor gardening. For proper lighting, you first need to invest in some good quality lights and once you have them, you need to make sure that you also set up a reflective medium such as Mylar. This will reflect the lights and make sure that it reaches every corner of your indoor gardening room.
  3. Take advantage of Daylight – Don’t think that Indoor Gardening needs to be done through artificial measures only. In fact, you can productively use the daylight to grow the plants. If you have windows in your room, which have a sufficient amount of sunlight during the day, purchase a windowsill extension and use it to place containers having veggies and plants in them. This will save your electricity cost that will else be wasted in keeping lighting & heating source on day and night.
  4. Use organic fertilizers – What do you think is the sole purpose of planting your own vegetables and fruits? To grow your own fruits, veggies and to eat healthy stuff, right? So, when it comes to fertilization, don’t inject your produce with chemical fertilizers. Instead, go with organic alternatives such as Alfalfa meal, cottonseed meal, and bat guano, which are some of the natural fertilizers that can be used in Indoor Gardening.
Bear these tips in mind and we’re sure that you will be able to have outstanding results out of your cozy indoor garden space.
